At Eton House, we pride ourselves on providing an environment that is socially therapeutic for each and every resident in our care. We provide a wide range of activities on a regular basis. This includes yoga (gentle chair exercises) twice a week, musical outsourced entertainment at least once a week, visits from animals along with regular trips and big home events at least once a month. We have had trips to Savill Garden, Beconskot model village, Windsor Theatre, Flowerland garden centre in Iver, Milestones museum in Basingstoke, Boat Trip on the Thames to name but a few. All outings are done regularly - as long as the weather is good!
We have had BBQs, tea parties and garden fundraisers over the last 4 years for different charities and causes, raising over £5,500 altogether (Marie Curie Cancer Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Alzheimer’s Society) all of which have had family and friends as an integral part of it.
We also have a vast amount of in house games and activities, including, bingo, dominoes, arts & crafts, flower arrangement, ball games etc. just to name a few. We have our very own sensory room, which is used by a professional masseuse who visits twice a week for residents that wish to have a 20 or 40 minute arms and/or legs massage. We have regular visits from Carol Singers at Christmas time along with regular communion services which takes part once a month in the quiet conservatory for any residents that wish to join in.
Over the last few years we have had three residents turn 100. On all occasions we arranged a marquee out in the garden and turned it into a black tie event. For us, turning 100 is a monumental achievement and so should be embraced and celebrated like a wedding.
Every year we have a Christmas Party and last year was a massive success. The staff produced a nativity play for the residents and one member of staff even dressed up as Santa Claus (!!), following a request from a resident at the monthly resident’s meeting.
Reminiscence plays a massive part in providing the resident’s with a socially therapeutic environment, and Eton House prides itself on providing that. From the decor, to the bedrooms, to the activities, everything we do is tailored to the residents of Eton House.
We have a professional music therapist that visits every week as well as exercise sessions regularly every week. We have our own in-house music therapist and sensory therapist that offer various activities with the residents.
